With Studio Billie’s Calendar, you can share a year with Emily Carr and her loyal dog, Billie.  In 1909, Carr drew a picture and wrote a brief account of each month from Billie’s perspective. You may recognize one or two of the drawings in this calendar, but Studio Billie’s Calendar presents the whole thing for the first time.  Use it year after year to record birthdays, anniversaries and other splendacious occasions!

Description

It’s 1909 and “the missus”, Emily Carr, runs a painting studio in Vancouver, where she gives lessons to students and paints her own works. Billie is with her always, except when he’s “chained to a wretched kennel” at his aunty’s house, or when he has to spend time with the other pets “down on cold rhumatic wind-swept lower decks, when they travel with their missuses holidaying”.

But Billie’s life is usually good: in February there’s “lots of posing to be done” for Carr’s art students; in May, he enjoys a “splendacious occasion”, including a “drive in the park, where I can look down and jeer at the pedestrian curs”; and in December, he indulges in the excesses of “Xmas and more dinner than I can consume!”
